this week's Sunday Times was all about courtesy and graciousness. do we really need to learn about courtesy and graciousness? is our country really so under-developed in graciousness?
this campaign is not new to boot - it has started since I was a kid.
I've learnt through personal experience that graciousness is cultivated, and not inborned. I used to be more of a thug, less patient, and quick to anger.
I distinctly remember how indignant I always felt when the lift door was held open by people close to me for others, and no one bothered to say "Thank you". I also remember how thugish I felt when I helped a lady with her pram up the stairs, only to have her give me weird looks.
Now, I remain expressionless. Haha. With time, we grow and learn. Some things just no longer bother us as they used to ;)
