m once told me, as we grow older, our circle of friends dwindle. as such, we should treasure our friends more. between she and i, we make it a point to celebrate at least birthday and xmas. it has become some sort of a tradition for us.
i understand not all of my friends are perfect (at times unreasonable, at times bossy, at times judgemental, etc.). however, they have rendered me support through my toughest times (in my personal measurement). ask sl...who will not hesistate to put me down by saying she was there urging me on when my appetite dropped and she saw me stirring absent-mindedly and staring forlornly at a bowl of porridge.
today, i apologised to j for disappearing. her last response to my text sometime ago was half-hearted and i wanted to follow up. i said due to the stress in work i was facing, and other personal problems, i wasn't able to meet up, and i had to devote more time to my personal life.
she said: well, in the last year we all had work and rs problems, this is not a valid excuse. i realised after the last episode that i do not want to continue this friendship anymore.
sigh...
i thought as friends, the set of expectations would not be set as high as partners.
i thought as friends, there would be a basic understanding that we were not expected to be there 24/7 esp. if our personal life needed attention.
honestly, as much as she is disappointed, i am too. maybe she has her side of stories and perspective...however she never opened up to me before and just decided to delete me from the face of all her contacts.
honestly, i would have appreciated attempts for her to communicate with me and to work things out.
